Slow Food Melbourne 2014 Committee
Marsilio Ficino, of the Medici Academy at Careggi in the fifteenth century called the small gathering of artist/healers he convened a convivium. According to him, “the Convivium is rest from labours, release from cares, and nourishment of genius; it is the demonstration of love and splendour, the food of good will, the seasoning of friendship, the leavening of grace and the solace of life.”
Mix that with good food, fine wine & good company and you are starting to get the picture of what we are about.
As did Marsilio Ficino, our local chapters are called “convivia” – it is through these local groups that our philosophy of conviviality is best expressed. They are made possible only through the tireless work of our members who volunteer their time and energy to make Slow Food ideals real. If you would like to join us, you can – drop us a line!
